#SherYourStory: Khaleel's Journey

By: Khaleel Williams

Some people think Sheridan College is only about academics, and others only focus on getting good grades. While both of those things are important there is a lot more to the Sheridan Community that you could ever imagine. Personally, for me the Sheridan community has connected me with amazing people who are friendly, highly self-motivated and adventurous.

Becoming a part of the Sheridan community meant that I’ve been able to meet people who are highly motivated, in the sense that everyone is always working to accomplish new and better things in their life, and adapting to new environments. Personally, that has motivated me more in believing that anything is possible with hard work, and that it helps to surround yourself with the right people who are also working to achieve their goals. The Sheridan community has connected me with the right people who have offered me guidance and support throughout my journey; everyone is honestly like one big family, made up of a group of people who are growing together.

The Sheridan community connected me with diverse people who are adventurous, and this has allowed me to think more outside the box. For example, being a part of different events has helped me to be more openminded and open to change. The Sheridan community hosts many different events that allows students to have a fun and memorable experience by being a part of Sheridan. For example, game nights allow different people to get to know one another in a fun and engaging way rather than only going to classes. The Sheridan community has made me feel welcome with all the events and fun activities which they host.

The Sheridan community provides a wide range of clubs and organizations on campus that can appeal to the wants or needs of diverse students. Campus clubs provide a sense of community where diverse students can communicate, have fun and teach each other new things in a fun and creative way. Clubs can vary from Social Clubs which are open to all Sheridan students where they can connect with each other to accomplish a common goal in a fun and engaging way, There are many diverse social clubs which are tailored to different types of students where every student is welcomed. Then there are Academic Clubs where students in a specific program can receive advice or help from other students or faculty in that program. Part of my role is to help you discover clubs at Sheridan, so you can get involved within the community! Feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions, or if you are looking for assistance.

In a time of incredible change, we are all experiencing this monumental shift together. With a global pandemic, the transition into online schooling and so much more, members of the Sheridan community have become chameleons to welcoming change into their daily routines.

But not every situation starts and ends so easily. There are hardships, challenges and struggles that we experience to come out successfully on the other side. In this blog series, students, Sheridan Alumni, and members of our Sheridan community will share their stories of resilience and how they were able to overcome these obstacles.

The obstacles will vary from physical, emotional and mental, and our hope is that there will be something for everyone to read and grow from.

We are proud to call this series #SherYourStory.
