Perks of Being on The Board- Kashyap

by: Kashyap Patel

Hello Sheridan College, this is Kashyap Patel, a 3rd year student of Chemical Engineering Technology, Advanced Diploma Co-op (quite a mouthful I know). I am the Davis Director and I am here to tell you why you should join us on the Board.

  • It’s a great opportunity to learn how to hear all sides of a decision and understanding different points of view is a transferable skill you can use in any role.

  • You will understand what affects the decisions made at the top level, when it comes to the Sheridan community and the organization.

  • You will learn how to ask questions and speak up for yourself and your peers.

The ability to voice the opinions of students at a platform, where not only is it heard, but also taken into consideration when decisions are being made, is powerful. As a Director, you are being educated on the finances of the SSU and making decisions based on that and there are always a bunch of activities to participate in, which you can choose based on your interests or the will to explore or to learn or simply to participate and enjoy. What’s more is, if you wish to carry out an event or an activity by yourself, well, look no further. I can assure you, this is a place for nothing else but your passion. Some people’s first reaction for wanting to become a Director may immediately be just to add to their resume or LinkedIn profile but, there is more to this role than the vanity. I do admit, it does stand out but, there’s no point in adding it to your profile, if you don’t put in the effort.

When I filled out my election package first in 2020 for the 2020-21 elections, I had many doubts and fears as an international student, who was also enrolled in one of the harder programs but believe me when I say that all this time has been worth it. As I continue with my current term there are many opportunities ahead. So, rest assured, no matter the outcome I would strongly recommend you fill out the election form.

See ya at the table of the Board of Directors. ^_^
