What's The Big Idea?

What's The Big Idea?

By: Karlo Galang - HMC Events Coordinator

One of my initial goals, when I stepped into the role as Events Coordinator, was to bring the same level of events that we host at our other two campuses to HMC. "HMC doesn’t have any events, we want MORE events at HMC, we want BIGGER events at HMC." These are the comments I’ve been getting on a daily basis since day 1 and I promise you, we hear you loud and clear.

We took your feedback, suggestions, ideas and came up with an event that made sense for the HMC campus. An event created, designed and catered to the entirety of our HMC student body. An event so large that it gathered the attention of our two larger campuses and more.

A friendly reminder to everyone that we can do it just as big as everyone else.

The Next Big Idea captures and combines the entrepreneurial spirit of HMC, the creativity value of the college and the excitement and student representation of the SSU. Students aren’t just the main focus of the event; they are the event and that’s why this event is so great. Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge & expertise in creating a product, an app, an idea and have a chance to win up to $1000. We want to give our students a chance to chase their dreams, pursue their passions and assist them along the way with people who have done it in the past and been successful.

Last year we brought in Matthew Corrin, CEO of Freshii and a dragon on the show Dragon’s Den to provide critique and advice to our students. Students were given an opportunity to ask him questions, present their ideas and even connect with him after the event.

This year we’re thinking more. Instead of just one entrepreneur, a complete judging panel of entrepreneurs in different industries and fields. Simply attending the event you’ll learn so much about the world of business. Taking the next step and applying to be a contestant gives you the opportunity to get the insights, critiques and funding for your idea!
