Health & Dental coverage

If you're a domestic student, you're automatically enrolled into our Sheridan Student Union's Health and Dental Plan! Your physical and mental health is important. That’s why our Health and Dental insurance has you covered, no matter what your needs are!

Full-time and part-time students pay a mandatory fee of $285.0 per year. If you are already covered by an extended health and dental plan, you can opt out of the Sheridan SU Health and Dental plan by providing proof of other equivalent health and dental coverage.

Here’s a little more about your Health & Dental Plan:

All the important stuff, like:
• Vision Care
• Prescriptions drugs
• Vaccinations
• Physiotherapists
• Chiropractors
• Massage therapy
• Naturopathic treatment
• Dental
• Travel health coverage

And now, we’ve added Empower Me: a mental health and wellness service that connects you with with qualified counsellors, consultants, and life coaches for a variety of issues. Learn more here.

If you already have coverage with another health and dental plan (such as a parent or spouse's),  you can opt-out during the change of coverage period and receive a full refund on your plan.

Opt out for Fall Term 2019: August 19, 2019 - September 17, 2019

Opt out for Winter 2020: January 3, 2020 - January 24, 2020

Opt out for Spring/Summer Term:
May 04, 2020 - May 19, 2020

Your Plan gives you the option to enrol your family (spouse and/or dependent children) by completing an enrolment process and by paying an additional fee, over and above your individual fee as a Plan member. Common law and same-sex couples are eligible. All enrolments must be completed during the Change-of-Coverage Period and coverage is only valid for the current policy year.

Students who are eligible to enrol themselves and wish to cover their spouse and/or dependent children have to pay the appropriate couple or family fee in addition to their own enrolment fee.

We’re proud to announce an extension of our Health and Dental Plan through Student Care!

A new service called Empower Me, a mental health and wellness service that allows students to connect with qualified counsellors, consultants, and life coaches for a variety of issues.

As a Plan member, you are entitled to sessions delivered in person, by telephone, by video-counselling, or by e-counselling.

TIP: Keep in mind that if you opted out permanently last year, you won't need to provide proof of other health or dental coverage this year. However, if you did an annual opt out and wish to opt out again you have to complete the process again. Students cannot opt out if they're only covered by OHIP or equivalent primary health care coverage.

You can learn more about your coverage, stop by your campus SSU office or visit
