Mentorship Program

What is the BEC Mentorship Program?

The Black Excellence Committee (BEC) Mentorship Program at Sheridan College aims to empower and connect African, Carribbean and Black students through mentorship, providing resources, guidance, and networking opportunities. BEC programming fosters a supportive community, enhancing students' cultural identity,. Tailored for Black students, employees, and alumni, the initiative focuses on creating meaningful mentorship connections to address unique challenges, foster belonging, and offer culturally sensitive support. Through mentorship, the program strives to empower students, build networks, and contribute to their overall success in college and beyond, promoting a more inclusive and diverse campus environment.

Cocoa & Connections 2026

Cocoa & Connections: Celebrating our First Event of the Year!

The BEC Mentorship Program hosted our first event, Cocoa & Connections, where students, faculty and staff had a chill afternoon of mingling, great talks, and good times with Sheridan’s Black Excellence Committee (BEC) Mentorship Program. We connected students with awesome resources and support - all while enjoying free hot chocolate or coffee, tea, treats, and fun trivia for cool prizes!

The BEC asked students shared what they want most out of a mentorship program. Here are a few of the key aspects that have come up:

  • Group Workshops & Guest Speakers

  • Social Gatherings and Network Opportunities

  • Student Leadership Opportunities
