Christian, Student Executive of Advocacy

“Hey everyone! My name is Christian Evangelista, and I am thrilled to serve as the Executive of Advocacy for your Student Union! My main responsibility is to represent and advocate for all students, particularly focusing on marginalized and equity-seeking groups within the Sheridan community. This means I will ensure that the students’ interests are well-represented by bringing their concerns and feedback to the forefront of discussions.”

What are some of your goals for your role this year?

“This year, my key goals are centered on enhancing the Sheridan Life of students, ensuring that they are heard, supported, and represented by the SSU. I am committed to leveraging my role to drive positive change and foster more inclusive spaces across all three campuses. Specifically, I aim to actively advocate policies and practices that promote fairness and inclusion for all. I also want to raise awareness among students of the important work that we do, and how we as a Student Union are here to help them succeed throughout their journey – through our programs, services, and, most importantly, advocacy!”

Q: What program are you in? And why did you choose this program at Sheridan?

“I am currently enrolled in the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Finance program at the HMC campus. I was particularly drawn to this program because of its practical and hands-on learning approach, which I find far more engaging than a purely theoretical one. I also appreciate the supportive student community, particularly within the Pilon School of Business. There are abundant resources dedicated to our career development as students, which played a huge role in fostering both my academic and professional growth.”

What are 3 things on your bucket list?

  1. Sleep under the stars

  2. Attend Osheaga Festival

  3. Be an extra in a Hollywood movie/TV show

What was your first memory of the SSU? How did you discover that the SSU existed for student support?

“I learned about the SSU during my Student Orientation in my first semester. I remember SSU had a booth in the marketplace, and I got to know more about their different services and support available to students like Dressed for Success and Free Legal Advice, to name a few. I also learned that there are various clubs to join across the different campuses, from academic to cultural to social!”

What's the best SSU event you've attended so far?

“For me, the best SSU event I’ve ever attended was the Welcome Back concert of Winter 2024 semester. This concert was headlined by Connor Price, with performances from Havaiah Mighty and Unsighted. We, along with the crowd, were hyped all throughout and it was such a blast!”

Are you a part of any SSU clubs/ associations or volunteer work?

“I’m a member of Sheridan Finance Club and Sheridan Esports!”
