“My name is Ben, and I'm excited to be serving as the President of the SSU for the 2019/2020 academic year! I've had the amazing opportunity to represent students as both a Vice President at the HMC campus and as a member of the Board of Directors, and bring that experience with me to this role. I've also been a strong advocate for improving the mental health of our students as one of the co-creators of Pause. Magazine. Outside of working and catching up on sleep, I love connecting with the incredible students on campus, playing Xbox with my brothers, and grabbing sushi as frequently as I can possibly afford it!
As President, I have the incredible opportunity to serve as the foremost voice of the student body, and actively engage with students to help improve their experiences on campus. I actively work to support the student leadership and Implement the strategic direction for the organization as established by the Board of Directors to the best of my ability! From attending college and external events on behalf of the SSU or watching our students cross the stage at convocation to meeting with municipal, provincial or federal government representatives, I'm someone who's actively involved in the Sheridan community speaking for students!”

Q: What are some of your goals for your role this year?
A: With the SSU having recently created a Strategic Plan, I am actively looking to identify how we as an organization can integrate this plan into the things that we do! This means looking at how each area of the SSU is able to work together to execute the vision and mission of this plan, while still ensuring that we’re responsive to the needs of our students. In saying this, I’m committed to ensuring that our services, programs, and advocacy are representative of the interests of our student body, which means more actively collecting feedback, being involved more with our community, and being more accountable and transparent with all students.
Another goal that I have surrounds increasing our collaboration and partnership with Sheridan as a means to provide a more seamless and positive student experience. Our students are the community that drives us here at the SSU, so ensuring that they feel heard, their needs are acknowledged, and that they feel represented are all very important to me.
As a third goal, I'd love to be able to increase the amount of advocacy we pursue for a variety of student concerns that may come forward, and helping to empower others in the Sheridan community to get more involved on campus!
Q: What program are you in? And why did you choose this program at Sheridan?
A: I'm actually not currently enrolled in any program here at Sheridan; I'm a recent graduate from the Bachelor of Business Administration (Supply Chain Management) program at HMC. When I came to Sheridan, I was originally enrolled in the BBA Finance program, but switched right at the start of my third year, as I wanted to learn more about Operations Management. Sheridan was the right school for me, giving me the chance to combine small classrooms and a collaborative learning environment with a great social experience.
