Join Sheridan Alumni, the Student Leadership Development and Engagement team and the Sheridan Student Union for a series of 30-minute coffee chats – Imagining Futures: A Black History Month Special. Sheridan students will engage in an organic conversation with Sheridan alumni about creating positive change and improving equity, inclusion, and justice in our communities, and how students can imagine their futures and become change makers in their community. Students and alumni will have a chance to connect, ask questions and expand their knowledge.

Shantay will share how she combined her passion for social justice, equity and mental wellness into businesses that support the success of Black entrepreneurs and inspire future owners and artist professionals.

Meet Shantay Parsons, Creative Industries Management ’20 

Shantay Parsons is a Production Coordinator at Corus Entertainment. She holds a BA in Film and Media studies at York University and is a graduate of Creative Industries Management at Sheridan College. Shantay provides opportunities for emerging talent and creates space for collaboration within her community. She specializes in creative financing and marketing which has aided her to create a consultancy agency to provide knowledge to upcoming business owners and artist professionals.  This experience has also led her to launch Black Creative Alliances. Black Creative Alliance is an incubator organization focusing on the success and collaboration of Black Artists and Black Creative Professionals.  Her podcast, “Tea With Tay”, explores topics including social justice, equity, and mental wellness. Shantay has been affiliated with projects such as SPARKTHAT, a Peel-based organization building a marketplace for creatives based in North America, UK, South America, The Caribbean, and Africa to collaborate and create. She has been a panelist on a series of conference conversations hosted by the City of Brampton. She was a mentor/mentee for Black Leaders of Tomorrow, a mentorship program providing a funnel of success for Black entrepreneurs. She continues to work closely with Sheridan College as a mentor and alumni affiliate.

Sierra Johnson, BBA Marketing Student  

Sierra Johnson is a BBA Marketing student at Sheridan who transferred over from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. Johnson transferred to develop a more hands-on experience in the business world, specifically marketing. Johnson trained at the Olympic Oval, based at the University of Calgary campus. With school and being a high-level athlete, she has learned to have effective time management skills which have translated over in any workplace. 
Johnson also has a love for real estate. She continues to enjoy learning about the real estate market and wants to accomplish a real estate certification once graduating from Sheridan.
