Sheridan College’s Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design are were seeking submissions from students for the Graduating Student Art Awards – an exciting, initiative devoted to showcasing student projects and work in the Trafalgar Campus B wing display cases.

  • The Graduating Student Art Awards recognize outstanding graduating students and purchase their artwork for inclusion in our Art Lending Library. Through the Art Lending Library, members of the Sheridan community can borrow student artwork to install across our three campuses.

For the Awards, the Sheridan Galleries team meets with graduating students across FAAD. They evaluate individual artworks as well as the professional profile demonstrated by students, who hone their skills by writing artist statements and interacting with gallery professionals. Through this program, the curatorial team provides students with mentorship opportunities to learn more about best practices and acquisition processes.

Now in its fifth year, this annual initiative is funded by the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design and Sheridan Alumni.

  • Beginning in April 2023, we invite graduating FAAD students to apply for the Awards through the Graduating Student Art Awards portal. The submission deadline for the Awards is the end of the day on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

A four-person panel of curators, gallery professionals, and arts educators will identify a shortlist of artworks from the submissions received.

In May, the Sheridan Galleries team will meet virtually with the shortlisted artists, who will be given the opportunity to present their work and respond to questions from the curatorial panel.

The Graduating Student Art Awards winners will be chosen from the shortlisted artists. Their work will be displayed at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Campus in Fall 2023 and an exhibition at the HMC Creative Campus Gallery in Winter 2024.

Winners will be awarded $500-$2,000 for the acquisition of their work, which will then be included as part of the Art Lending Library program.
