Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Training is Back

Introduction to Human Rights Training Module, starting March 28th!

Sheridan is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and strives to foster a learning and working environment of mutual respect that is free from discrimination and harassment. To advance these principles and practices, the Centre for Equity and Inclusion is pleased to present Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Training for Students; a suite of training modules that will be available to students in Slate, starting March 28th.

The purpose of these modules is for students to gain an understanding of fundamental human rights principles, gain the knowledge and skills to identify, safely address and prevent various kinds of oppression, and learn to model respectful and inclusive behaviour.

After Completing Introduction to Human Rights Training, students will be able to:

  • Describe human rights and the Ontario Human Rights Code

  • Define and identify different types of discrimination and harassment

  • Differentiate between Equality and Equity

  • Explain the Duty to Accommodate

  • Identify, address and prevent various kinds of oppression and be an ally for your peers.

The first of the four modules is Introduction to Human Rights. It will be followed by Anti-Racism, Social Power and Privilege, and Anti-Oppression.

Our commitment to creating a more inclusive and informed community

Given the state of the world and recent development, although the conversations surrounding equity, diversity and inclusion have become more widespread, we realize there is still far more work to be done and look forward to working with the Centre for Equity and institutional partners to provide students with access to information and resources to help. By completing this and future training modules, you will play an important role in the creation of an environment at Sheridan, helping to make sure everyone experiences a sense of belonging, dignity and well-being.
