Through My Latin Blood: Celebrating Latin Heritage Art Contest Winners
The SSU is proud to celebrate our first Latin-American Heritage Art Contest hosted by your EDI Executive, Mateo. The evening transformed The Marquee into a vibrant and lively colour-filled expo. The entire student community at Sheridan put their best foot forward to celebrate the wonderful artwork presented by our Latin American student artists!
Samiya Khan, your Executive Director, who was present at the event, said, “ The Latin Expo Showcase was something that SSU did for the very first time, but it turned out to be an incredible success for everyone! I am happy we could spotlight Latin American Heritage month through this amazing event, which was led by Mateo, our EDI Executive. We hope to make this an annual celebration of art, food, and culture that we can all look forward to.” She further added that Mateo really owned this event by inspiring so many other Latin American students to feel seen and represented.
Mateo, who was beaming with joy throughout the event, added, “It was an amazing experience! It took a lot of effort and commitment, as it was an ambitious project. There were ups and downs with the engagement, but with some adjustments, everything worked out perfectly. Seeing the art and culture blend together in such a beautiful way was extremely rewarding. My favorite part was listening to the performances, seeing the jury interact with our students, and of course, the churros!”
A special thank you to our judges Dani Elizondo, Martha Bátiz, Marton Robinson, Melina Cossío, and SoJin Chun, whose expertise shaped this year’s results.
