The Sheridan Black Student Association is back with another cooking class recipe! Learn how to make African Peanut Soup and Mandazi (African Donuts) with Chef Patience Chirisa!

Chef Patience is Canada's culinary expert when it comes to African cuisine and believes sharing easy-to-prepare recipes can spread the joy of African cooking across all cultures and ethnicities. 

Grab your ingredients before the class and enjoy this delicious, student-budget friendly meal!

African Peanut Soup Ingredients

·       1 container Peanut butter smooth

·       ½ clove or 2 tablespoons Garlic (fresh or powder)

·       ½ clove or 2 tablespoons Ginger (fresh or powder)

·       2 tablespoons  Cumin

·       2 tablespoons Cayenne Pepper

·       ¼ cup Tomato Paste

·       1 can Canned crushed tomatoes

·       2 cups Stock (Vegetable, Beef or Chicken)

·       1 tin Chickpeas

·       2 cups Water

·       ½ cup Cream


Mandazi (African Donut)

·       1 packet Yeast

·       2 cups Flour

·       2 cups Water

·       ½ cup Sugar

·       Powdered Sugar (to decorate)

Meet Chef Patience

Born in Zimbabwe, Patience wears many hats: Mother, Grandmother, Chef, recipe developer, culinary arts instructor, food and wine pairing expert, lifestyle writer, analyst, among many others.

With a penchant for breaking barriers, Patience has cooked for countless weddings, churches, celebrities and the less fortunate . She teaches cooking classes at various locations including CTV, Harbourfront, Longos Canada and Loblaws Canada, yet remains grounded and focused. She has a passionate love affair with African foods that span the continent, fromMorocco to South Africa. 

Patience's unofficial motto is "Fresh, Local, Seasonal, Organic." Her recipes blend traditional African ingredients with flavours familiar to Canadian, U.S.,and worldwide . She trusts in the power of good food to unite people. She believes sharing easy-to-prepare recipes can spread the joy of African cooking across all cultures and ethnicities.
