Fall is here! And for me, it usually comes with the bittersweet feeling of saying goodbye to warm summer days and welcoming the colourful transition of the trees with awe 🍂. It can be hard to let go of summer, but exploring new and exciting things around the city might be our best ally to ease into fall (especially if they help us save money!). Here are my top picks of FREE things to do around Toronto, Mississauga, and beyond!
1. Queen West Art Crawl Festival (Toronto)
When: September 20 & 21
Where: Trinity Bellwoods Park
Every September, Queen Street West and Trinity Bellwoods Park turn into one big outdoor gallery. The Queen West Art Crawl brings together artists, live music, and a mix of cultures for a full weekend of creativity.
This is the perfect excuse to visit Toronto with friends, discover unique art, and soak up the buzzing energy of one of Toronto’s coolest neighbourhoods. Plus, there are usually free, cute and crafty activities, so make sure to arrive on time to enjoy everything this festival has to offer.
2. Mexican Day Festival (Toronto)
When: September 13 and 14, 2025
Where: Nathan Phillips Square
Nathan Phillips Square comes alive with mariachi, cumbia, salsa, and even Lucha Libre in this folkloric celebration. Enjoy the super tasty and iconic Mexican food (tacos, sopes, tamales, micheladas 🤤) and browse through artisans’ handcrafted treasures.

3. AfroCan Roots & Rhythms Festival (Mississauga)
When: July 19 and 20, 2025
Where: Celebration Square, Mississauga
The AfroCan Roots & Rhythms Festival is a vibrant celebration of African and Caribbean culture right in the heart of Mississauga.
During two days, Celebration Square transforms into a vibrant hub of music, dance, food, and art that highlight the richness and diversity of these communities. Think of traditional performances to mixed rhythms, the festival creates space for storytelling, cultural pride, and genuine community connection. 4. Nuite Blanche (Toronto/Etobicoke)
When: October 4 and 5, 2025

Toronto’s iconic all-night contemporary art festival is back with its newest edition, Translating the City. The city will transform into an open-air gallery featuring immersive installations, interactive exhibits, and large-scale art projects.
Major exhibitions will span across the downtown core, Etobicoke, and North York, meaning the city itself becomes part of the artwork. Whether you’re wandering through light-based sculptures, joining a multimedia performance, or stumbling upon a thought-provoking installation in a public square, Nuit Blanche promises a night of discovery and wonder.

Celebrate the warmth and vibrancy of Filipino culture at this free, family-friendly festival in the heart of Mississauga. From live music and dance performances to games, film screenings, and a lively singing contest, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. And of course, no Filipino celebration is complete without the delicious food! Enjoy savoury street eats and sweet treats that will transport your taste buds straight to the Philippines. A true celebration of community, heritage, and joy!
6. October Powwow (Brampton)
When: October 25, 2025
Where: Save Max Sports Centre
City of Brampton invites the community to come together for a traditional Powwow at the Save Max Sports Centre. This cultural gathering, presented in partnership with Algoma University and The Indigenous Network, is a meaningful celebration of Indigenous heritage, resilience, and community.
From noon to evening, experience the power of song, dance, and storytelling that honour traditions passed through generations. Open to all, the Powwow is an opportunity to learn, connect, and celebrate culture in a spirit of respect and unity. Plus! Food and drink vendors will be available.
7. Open Doors Ontario (Brampton)
When: Sunday, September 21, 2025

This is your chance! Brampton opens the doors to some of its most fascinating landmarks for Doors Open Ontario.
