Living the Best of Both Worlds: Between Who You Were and Who Youβre Becoming
By: Monica
Winter semester is almost over. Weβre finishing up deadlines, the weather is finally getting warmer, and everything feels like itβs coming to an end.
Picture this: Spring is here, graduation is around the corner, and then suddenly, youβre standing between two versions of yourself: the student youβve been and the adult youβre about to become.
Itβs exciting. Itβs overwhelming. Itβs a little bit scary.
These are the times we look back and see how far weβve been. Remember when you used to be a little kid playing with your toys and drawing with crayons? Turning up the volume of the radio and jamming to the beat. Changing the channel of the TV to watch your favourite show.
From the little kid who used to dream big and reached for the stars, to the adult version of us thatβs going to make it happen. The recent Hannah Montana 20th anniversary reconnected me to a childhood I once had. It wasnβt just nostalgia. It was a reminder that we donβt have to leave our younger selves behind when we grow up. We can carry them with us. Not saying goodbye to who you were but reintroducing her into a new chapter. And somewhere along our childhood we used to listen to songs that now hit a little deeper. It hits right at home.
βEverybody Makes Mistakes, Everybody Has Those Daysβ
There were moments this semester that didnβt go as planned. Outcomes that you thought you couldβve done better. Times you felt off and unmotivated. Hours when you questioned if you reviewed the materials enough times. Days when you procrastinated until you cram last minute. Nights when you stayed up late and wondered if only you have started it earlier.
We all have one of those days in our lives. But they donβt define you. We make mistakes and sometimes things donβt turn out that the way we planned. Itβs those days that we learn from. We figure something else out. We donβt stay down. Remember that nobodyβs perfect. What matters is that we try again.
βDonβt Let No Small Frustration Ever Bring You Downβ
Have you ever thought about what happens after you graduate? Weβve been used to being a student since pre-school up until college. And now weβre about to step into a new chapter of our lives. Adulthood. So now what?
Thereβs that pressure to get a job right away, have a clear plan, or have it all βfigured outβ.
You start to build your resume and realized that you could have been involved more on campus. You could have done more volunteering. When things donβt go as expected, we start to get frustrated. When weβre frustrated, itβs easy to see that everything is going wrong. We start to compare ourselves with others. Those who are getting interviews. Those announcing new achievements theyβve done. Those who already have secured a job.
And here we are sending resumes and patiently waiting for a reply. Hoping for that next call. Praying for a job offer. It feels like youβre falling behind. You start to ask yourself if thereβs something youβre missing. If thereβs a step you forgot to take.
But hereβs the truth: graduating isnβt the end β itβs the next chapter of your adulthood. And sometimes not knowing the plot of your chapter is thrilling but also scary. Transitioning from being a student to entering the workforce is a big change. And change is uncomfortable. We will get frustrated with getting to deal with no replies, rejection emails, and delays. But it doesnβt mean that we failedβ¦
βLifeβs A Climbβ
Thereβs always going to be another mountainβ¦ Challenges. Rejections. Career changes. Unexpected detours. Sudden delays. But that doesnβt mean youβre going backwards. It doesnβt mean youβre not moving forward.
Itβs not about how fast you get to the destination. Itβs not about whatβs waiting on the other side. Itβs the process of going to the finish line. Itβs the in-between. Itβs the climb.
Itβs the space where you grow confidence, practice patience, and learn to check-in with yourself.
You are allowed to feel proud of how far youβve come and still unsure about whatβs next.
You are not behind. You are in progress. You are becoming.
βLifeβs What You Make Itβ
You can step into this chapter with intention. Look back and celebrate how much youβve grown. Trust that youβre exactly where you need to be.
Because at the end of the day, life is what you make it.
So make this season of your life hopeful.
Make it meaningful. Make it memorable.
And most importantlyβown it. Make it yours.
Remember the little kid who believed in you. That little kid who dreamed big and reached for the stars. Make the younger you proud.
