Meet your board of directors!

Wajiha Siddiqui

Board of Director, 2025-2026

Program: Software Development and Network Engineering

Tell us about you and your role within the SSU:

“I'm serving as a Board of Director, which basically means I'm the voice of the students at the table when decisions are being made. I'm in the Software Development and Network Engineering program, and between classes, group projects, and trying to maintain some kind of social life, I totally get how hectic student life can be. That's actually what drove me to join the SSU in the first place - I wanted to help create the kind of campus experience that acknowledges we're all real people with real stress and real lives. In my role, I focus on bringing student concerns directly to our meetings and making sure the SSU's priorities actually match what students need. As a previous peer mentor as well I've hosted regular coffee chats in the halls to hear what's on everyone's minds, and those conversations have been incredibly valuable for shaping my approach this year.”

What is your goal as a member of the Board this year?

“My main goal this year is to transform how we approach student well-being. Instead of just running similar events in the past, I want us to create experiences that reduce academic stress and give students what they're asking for. I'm pushing for more flexible study spaces that stay open later during exam periods, monthly de-stress events and partnerships with faculty to create more stress-free exam weeks. What I love most about Sheridan is how diverse and creative our community is, and I want the SSU initiatives to reflect that. I want to make day-to-day life better for students who are juggling too much already. Success for me this year will be measured by whether students feel the SSU actually understands and addresses their real needs.”

Tell us a fun fact about you:

“Just a random fun fact about me - I once blew up our microwave at home trying to heat up soup in a metal bowl. Total brain fade moment! It sparked like crazy but thankfully nobody got hurt. My family still teases me about it whenever I go near the kitchen appliances!”

As a new Board Member, what are your expectations of this role?

“As a new Board Member, I'm expecting this role to be both challenging and rewarding. I'm looking forward to learning the ins and outs of how the SSU operates behind the scenes and using that knowledge to better represent student interests. I’m sure there will be a learning curve at first, but I'm excited to bring fresh perspectives to the table.”
