Where Art Meets Advocacy: AdvocART on Campus Recap

Advocating for issues that matter through art!🎨

A very artsy mid-November arrived at Sheridan. The successful AdvocART on campus led by our Student Executive of Advocacy, Christian, received positive responses from Sheridan students who participated across three campuses. The event started off with a fun icebreaker, followed by a presentation of what advocacy is and how students can advocate for themselves and for others, and finally, wrapped up with a passionate painting session filled with snacks and laughter.

Christian, SSU’s Student Executive of Advocacy, teaching students how to advocate for themselves, inside the Trafalgar campus atirum.

Overwhelmed and happy about the overall turnout, Christian said, "AdvocART on Campus was specifically designed to create a low-pressure and highly accessible platform for students to relax, connect, and work together to advocate through art! Since its conception, this event has aimed to enhance the student experience by empowering them with tools for effective civic engagement while also providing a reflective outlet for them to express their concerns and hopes for the campus community. Seeing students gain confidence in the advocacy process firsthand and transform their ideas into powerful, visible calls for change was truly inspiring. We, at the SSU, are dedicated to providing many more of these transformative opportunities for our students, thereby enriching their Sheridan life."

The painting session welcomed students’ talent and unique perspectives about advocacy, both from their individual canvas and a collaborative canvas. Through this initiative, students are more familiar, well-informed, and confident in advocating for what’s important for them.

Stay tuned during the New Year for more such events where you can express your opinions and voice through art and other creative ways.
