Annual General Meeting - November 2025 Recap

By-law changes, questions asked, votes accounted for, and more.

2025-26 Board of Directors

On November 12th, 2025, we conducted our Annual General Meeting to present the by-law changes, approved budget, and financials & more.

The meeting started promptly and was live-streamed across all the campuses on the SSU televisions! Although voting for all the by-law changes required in-person formal participation, the livestream served as a great front to raise awareness and spark interest within the student community!

We started the meeting with a very empowering drumming ceremony and powerful storytelling by the extremely talented artist and Anishinaabe, Jared Big Canoe, from the Chippewas of Georgina Island. If you want to give his music a listen, give his family’s Spotify page a visit.

During the meeting membership voted on some important aspects, like reviewing the 2024/25 financial report, auditor ratification, and ratification of the elected 2025-26 Board of Directors! The attendees also approved bylaw changes designed to keep the organization aligned with current practices, with opportunities to ask questions about these updates.

The presentations began with your Executive Director, Samiya Khan who highlighted key elements of the 2024-25 Impact Report. This report serves as a recap of specific SSU initiatives and the tangible outcomes achieved via it throughout the year!

Our auditor, who was ratified earlier during the meeting - Jaime Mitchell, presented the financial statements and confirmed the report’s authenticity and accuracy to the membership, leading into our Interim Managing Director and Treasurer, Hanh Ngo’s presentation. Hanh’s presentation included a detailed breakdown of how revenue, expenditure, cash, and reserve resources were allocated.

During the Q&A session, students voiced their concerns regarding the potential impacts of Bill 33 on SSU revenues and the international student cap. Moreover, the membership present at the AGM also raised concerns about accessibility at TRC, upcoming campus development projects, and the importance of student-centered input through visioning sessions. They also emphasized pursuing more affordable transit options and adopting sustainable practices.

This Annual General Meeting offered an excellent chance for students to better understand the work the SSU does on their behalf, and we hope our increased visibility through the television livestream encourages more students to join us next year.
