SSU Food Services Update- Here's What You Need To Know

In July 2025, Sheridan Student Union food services underwent an operational restructuring that resulted in the closure of our SSU Food Services outlets (Booster Juice, Coffee Loft, Station Kitchen, Station Express and Bruin Coffee House). With the rise of operational food costs and a shift in student campus culture, the closure served as an opportunity to critically examine our food operations for the upcoming year.

Over the last decade the SSU food services have evolved from a full-service restaurant and bar to a grab-and-go-counter station. Known on campus for our in-house menus, specials and deals, our Food Services were also met with the growing challenge in the current economic climate. The SSU has subsidized these services for years, however in the current economic climate we're seeking to minimize our subsidies and better serve all students. The transient nature of our student body also called for a new food experience that matched the rhythm of campus life today. Through each evolution we have, and will continue, to maintain our committment to student feedback and enhancing your Sheridan Life.

The Spring/ Summer term offered an opportunity to assess a new way of supporting food needs on campus. Booster Juice, Bruins Coffee House, and Coffee Loft spaces are set to transform into new food outlets starting in the Fall term.

Here are a few elements that were taken into consideration with the change:

  • Convenience & Speed of Service/ Ease of Ordering: The new food services outlets will provide two ways of ordering your food – a kiosk located on campus or online – right from your phone or desktop.

  • Culturally Diverse Menus & Dietary Preferences: Food services options that provide the classic bar food favourites as well as culturally diverse menu features throughout the year.

  • Environmental Impact & Food Waste Reduction: A collaboration with programs that are mindful of our food waste and create opportunities for sustainability in food.

Beyond the initial considerations, we will continue to evolve our spaces and food services with student feedback in mind. Samiya Khan, Director of Student Executive Team shared, “My commitment to amplifying student voices is rooted in listening first. Whether it's gathering feedback on the student employment piece, pushing for more inclusive food options this year, or sharing the importance of diverse cultural and dietary needs, I’ll continue to seek student perspectives.”

As we near the Fall term, we look forward to sharing a new student food experience on campus. Stay tuned for more information about our new food service offerings, operation hours.
