July 2025 Sheridan Student Union Recap
July was a month full of the perfect mix of fun, outreach, acknowledgements and productivity! We hosted awesome events, attended important conferences, learned about financial literacy and so much more. Take a look at our recap video for some special moments this month!
Updates from Our SSU Board of Directors
This month member of our Board of Directors attended a two-part Financial Literacy Training. These sessions enhanced the Board’s ability to read nonprofit financial statements, clarified their fiduciary responsibilities, and reinforced their role as stewards of student resources. The training prepared the team to confidently review and approve key financial documents, including SSU’s audited statements.
Additionally, the Board reached a milestone in student engagement by hosting the July 28th Board meeting at Davis Campus, meaning they’ve visited all SSU campuses this term! At this meeting, they reviewed the quarterly financial condition update for the period ending April 30, 2025, and we officially approved the date of our next Annual General Meeting (Wednesday, November 12, 2025), wherein an overview of the progress made in 2024-2025 will be shared with students.
Students will start seeing whiteboards at the Board’s booths, in August. These whiteboards will have rotating discussion prompts (and snacks). Additionally, in August, The Board is shifting focus to Financial Equity and wants to connect with student to understand what financial support should look like today, so, make sure you stop by during office hours to connect with some Board members and voice your thoughts!
Lastly, our TRC Director and Vice Chairperson, Austin attended the Ontario Student Voices’ (OSV) Policy Conference, where student leaders from across Ontario finalized policy recommendations, build advocacy plans, discuss Bill 33, and connect with sector experts.
Updates from our SSU Executive Team
Samiya (Director of Student Executives) and Christian (Executive of Advocacy) joined Austin at OSV, representing the SSU on a provincial level. The Executive Team also attended the summer clubs fair, hosted by our clubs department! There, they were able to gather some important feedback from almost 100 students, across all our campuses, to guide upcoming events and pop-ups this year.
The team also represented the SSU on a federal level at the Policy & Strategy Conference held by the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations’ (CASA). Three members of our SSU Executive Team were nominated to join committees! Mateo (Executive of Equity), was nominated to be a part of the EDI Committee, Samiya was nominated to be a part the College & Polytechnic Advisory Committee and Christian was nominated to be part of the Advocacy Committee.

The Events Team had a fun and successful July! They hosted seven events this month with almost 150 attendees in total. Students took advantage of the warm weather by showing up to Our ‘Take a Trip’ events to Niagara falls, Toronto Island and Andrews Farm, selling out all the tickets!
Team Leads, Laura and Oscar continued to cater to students as they successfully planned some awesome events for this year’s Welcome Week, which takes place in the first two weeks of September! The Leads, along with Events Supervisor, Mauricio, have worked to put together a great calendar of events for the upcoming Fall and Winter Semesters.
The department would like to give a huge shoutout to these three employees for all the work they’ve done this summer! From working on off-campus trips and Welcome Week to helping out at small events and clubs fairs, their presence is always appreciated!
Updates from our Clubs Team
The Clubs Department also hosted a number of successful events this month. Our 2025 summer clubs fair theme was movies! 35 clubs from our student community came to participate and reach out to the student body. Our clubs coordinators also hosted pop-ups to further showcase the awesome clubs we have across our campuses. We would like to highlight our Davis clubs coordinator, Madushen, this month. He was great at running clubs fair and handled the day very well! He also ran a very successful clubs fair after party to thank the club executives for their participation!
Here are some highlights from student clubs:
Anime Club: Super Smash Bros Tournament - "We are hosting a Super Smash Bros. Tournament at HMC. Everyone is Welcome! We will have free Snacks and Pizza! We would love to see you there!"

Updates from our Finance Team
Our Finance department hosted the successful in-person and virtual Financial Literacy Training sessions on July 11th and 25th. There was strong participation from our Finance Committee members, Board of Directors, and Executive Team. This training aimed to help participants understand how to read and interpret financial statements and the role of the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors in overseeing the organization's financial activities. The department would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event!
On July 31, Finance had a picnic to celebrate and recognize the contributions of Accounting Clerk co-op student, Mark Tonkovic, who has been a valuable support to the Finance Department and the organization since January 2025. They also took this opportunity to thank the Finance and Human Resources teams for their hard work and support with the recent year-end audit for the fiscal year 2024-2025. Thank you to everyone who made the picnic a warm and meaningful moment of appreciation!
