Sheridan Student Union (SSU) is getting a brand-new health and dental plan this Fall, and we want you to get a closer look at what’s in store. Starting September 1st, 2026, our Health and Dental service provider will be changing to The Campus Trust.
Here’s what you need to know about SSU’s New Health & Dental Plan
SSU’s Health and Dental Plan will continue to offer health, dental, vision care, travel insurance. That means you will continue to keep the same great coverage (with some extra added benefits too)! If you're a domestic student (Excluding Continuing Education), you're automatically enrolled into our Sheridan Student Union's Health and Dental Plan. Take a look at the benefits at-a-glance document for more information.
Maple Assistance Program: New Counselling and On-Demand Care
Beyond the Health and Dental coverage, eligible students will also have access to a new virtual counselling and on-demand care.
Support that meets you where you are
As part of the new plan, students will have access to more ways to get support when they need it, including confidential counselling sessions through the Member Assistance Program (MAP), brought to you by PBAS Group, and virtual on-demand healthcare through Maple. Whether you’re working through something heavy in life, looking for practical support, or simply have a health question you don’t want to wait weeks to address, these services are designed to make more accessible.
Confidential counselling and everyday support
Through the Member Assistance Program, students can access confidential support to help navigate personal, academic or professional challenges. Students can connect with trained professionals through phone, video or in-person support, depending on what works best for them. There are five counselling sessions per presenting issue, giving you a dedicated space to talk through something that’s happening now, work through a challenge that has been building, or get support during a difficult time.
That’s not all! Maple’s Assistance Program also goes beyond counselling. Students can access financial guidance, work-life resources on topics like childcare, elder care and relocation support, as well as digital self-care tools and wellness coaching focused on areas such as nutrition, sleep, weight management, stress, burnout and resilience. If you’re looking for additional support with anxiety or depression, the program also includes self-guided digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CCBT) programs that can be completed at your own pace. The goal is simple: we want to give students like you more options to find the kind of support that fits your needs, when you need it.
Maple’s Virtual On-Demand Care
Students who have access to the SSU Health and Dental Plan will also have access to Maple’s virtual on-demand care, connecting you with Canadian-licensed healthcare practitioners from your phone, tablet or computer through secure text, audio or video. Whether you’re dealing with a cough or flu symptoms, a skin concern, or simply need medical guidance, Maple makes it easier to get care without having to leave home or wait weeks for an appointment.
More flexibility. Fewer barriers. Support when you need it.
Your student feedback about our health and dental plan helped us understand that two things are important for you: access and flexibility. The new plan is designed to remove the barriers you have told us about, while giving you more choice during the change of coverage period, to have coverage that works for your life.
Annual opt-outs, instead of a permanent decision
The new plan replace the permanent opt-out with an annual opt-out. This means you can make the decision based on what you need each year, rather than feeling locked into an irreversible choice. Your circumstances can change from one year to the next, and we want to make sure you’re supported. Whether you need additional support one year, have equivalent coverage through another provider the next, or simply have different needs throughout the course of your Sheridan Life, with an annual opt-out, you have the flexibility to reassess your coverage each year.Family coverage when it makes sense for you
If you want to combine your coverage with your family, you can. The new plan gives students the option to add eligible dependants, helping you make the most of your coverage and support the people who matter to you.More flexibility when your coverage needs change
Life changes, and your coverage can change with it. If you decide you’d like to add a spouse, common-law partner or child, you’ll have the option to do so during the appropriate change-of-coverage period. And if you already have equivalent coverage elsewhere, you can still opt out during that period.
As advocates for students, we’re looking forward to working with Campus Trust to provide an improved and comprehensive health, dental and wellness supports. Student wellness is a something we at the SSU are committed to and we’re excited to see this commitment reflected in a plan that offers more choice, flexibility and access to support for students. We’re excited to share more details about the improved experience and how these options will work when the benefits portal goes live. In the meantime, save the dates: SSU’s Health and Dental Change of Coverage period begins on August 24, 2026 - October 2nd.
