Mateo, Student Executive of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

As the Executive of EDI, I’m excited to work with the purpose of ensuring all students feel represented and acknowledged regardless of ethnicity, culture, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion, disability, and language. I aim to advocate for fair treatment and full participation for members of groups who have been historically underrepresented or unrecognized.

Q: What are some of your goals for your role this year?

“Some of my goals include: Ensuring all students feel represented. Help the student body know of the advantages the SSU can provide them. Advocate for the SSU and Sheridan to keep providing services that aid marginalized people live a fairer life.”

Q: What program are you in? And why did you choose this program at Sheridan?

“BFTV. Ever since I was a kid, I have been passionate about media, especially film. I wanted to expand my knowledge in the area and have the opportunity to integrate hands-on learning. Sheridan students also have the chance to connect with industry professionals through the institution and graduate with high-quality portfolio projects.”

Q: What are 3 things on your bucket list?

  1. Attend a huge music festival

  2. Go bungee-jumping (because I am scared of heights)

  3. Have my own vegetable patch!

Q: What was your first memory of the SSU? How did you discover that the SSU existed for student support?

“My first memory of the SSU was a welcome event in my first week of school. The SSU organized a drag show with Priyanka as the main act. I got to meet a lot of new people; students and SSU staff.”

Q: Which SSU Perk Partner is your personal favourite?

“All the food discounts!”
