Fall Adventures: The Best Things to Do This Season

Make the Most of the Fall Season

By: Laura

When the seasons start to change, so does our mood. It is easy to feel a little down once the summer is over, but that does not mean you have to stay indoors. There are still plenty of activities you can try and enjoy the weather before it gets too cold. If you’re anything like me, you can dress up more whimsical to match the autumn colours or get into the Halloween spirit and go on various guided spooky tours!

I’ve compiled a list of some of my favourite fall activities in case you are unsure on what to do or are simply looking for some inspiration.

  1. Hiking

One of the best activities this time of year is hiking! The air is cooler, and temperatures have dropped a bit. Plus, you get to enjoy the beautiful scenes and the changing leaves. It is the best way to appreciate the transition from summer to fall. There are several hiking trails around the GTA, but my personal favourite is the Smokey Hollow waterfall in the Hamilton area. During the fall, the trees look stunning with all the different fall colours, and the waterfall adds the perfect view.

2. Art Gallery of Ontario & the Royal Ontario Museum

If you are not the outdoorsy type, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Royal Ontario Museum are great choices for a perfect, relaxed activity indoors. If you enjoy art this is the perfect plan for you. You can see different exhibitions, learn about different art movements, techniques, and have a quiet, lay back time. If you want to find what is showing at the moment check their websites and do not forget to check the SSU perks page to see the discount you get at the ROM just for being a Sheridan Student.

3. Halloween Haunt

If you enjoy being scared and packed with adrenaline, I recommend you go to the annual Halloween Haunt event at Canada’s Wonderland. If you’ve never been before, this is the perfect time of the year to visit, it is not as cold, and the rides are a little bit less busy than in the summer. Plus, you get to enjoy haunted houses, scare actors, and spend a wonderful night. Even better if you spend it with friends; there is nothing better than good company. As a tip, I would recommend going with the SSU since they provide transportation and it is more affordable. This years’s trip is on October 22nd you get your tickets HERE. They sell. out fast so make sure to get them soon!

4. Pumpkin Patch

There is no better fall activity that going to a pumpkin patch. You can appreciate the fall views, pick your own pumpkin, and take a peaceful walk while getting into the fall spirit. Have your camera ready because you will want to capture the beautiful orange hues. My top recommendation would be Downey’s Farm. There are multiple activities, delicious food and games you can play around the farm.

5. Apple Picking

This is another classic fall activity that you cannot miss! Who doesn’t enjoy a fresh, tasty apple? Whether you want to bake some apple pie, grab some cider, or simply have a bite of a freshly picked apple, this activity is a great way to disconnect for a while and embrace what nature has to offer. There are plenty of places of farms you can visit, and if you are a little bit more adventurous, you should consider visiting The Big Apple in Ontario. It’s a fun time and I hear they have awesome cider!
