Leanne Gulmayo, HMC Director

Meet your board of directors!

Leanne Gulmayo

Board of Director, 2025 - 2026

Program: Honours Bachelor in Business Administration (Accounting)

Tell us about you and your role within the SU:

“Hello! My name is Leanne, and I’m proudly pursuing my BBA in Accounting. My friends often describe me as cheerful, approachable, and passionate. If I had to pick just one, I’d definitely go with passionate. Whether it’s academics, student events, or leadership opportunities, I always give my heart to everything I do. I’m a go-getter who loves making the most out of college life. I’m also very grade-conscious, so balancing academics and involvement is something I take seriously. As a Board of Directors member, I’m incredibly proud and humbled to represent the voices of students across all Sheridan campuses. To me, this role is about actively listening, gathering real feedback from students, and using my platform to advocate for meaningful change in students' lives. I want to help create a Sheridan where every student feels supported, celebrated, and empowered. This year, I’m especially passionate about advancing financial support programs, cultural representation, and sustainability initiatives. I know how powerful it is when students feel seen, not just as learners, but as people with real stories, struggles, and dreams. That’s the kind of community I want to help build.”

What is your goal as a member of the Board this year?

“My exciting goal this year is to champion financial support and accessibility for all students, especially those who may not realize help is available. Coming from a single-parent household, I know how tough it can be. Winning a scholarship changed my life, and I want my fellow Sheridan students to feel that same relief and confidence. With that said, I’ll be advocating for more awareness of scholarships and bursaries, simpler application processes, and better financial literacy so students can make empowered choices! I'm also passionate about cultural inclusivity! I plan to support more diverse events and safe spaces where students can celebrate their backgrounds and feel truly seen. For sustainability, I’d love to help push for greener campus practices, like reducing waste at events and promoting reusable options. At the end of the day, I want Sheridan to be a place where students feel supported, included, and proud.”

Tell us a fun fact about you:

“I absolutely love singing! Whether it’s belting out ballads at SSU karaoke nights or performing on stage. Back in high school, I even used to upload song covers on YouTube! These days, college life keeps me busy, but I still sneak in short covers whenever I can. I play the piano too, as an accompaniment to my singing!”

As a new Board Member, what are your expectations of this role?

“As a new Board Member, I’m excited to learn how 'big changes' that students see (including me!) happen behind the scenes. I’m hoping to gain a deeper understanding of how decisions are made, how student voices are brought forward, and how we can turn ideas into action. I am looking forward to improving my leadership skills, too. I want to grow as a leader who listens, collaborates, and advocates meaningfully. I am also looking forward to contributing to big projects that will have a long-lasting impact on students' lives. Most of all, I want to make an impact by helping students feel seen, supported, and empowered, especially those who may be struggling silently. Whether it’s through promoting financial aid, celebrating cultural diversity, or encouraging sustainable practices, I want to help create a Sheridan where every student feels like they belong.”
