I wanted to work with the SSU because I enjoy helping people and wanted to be more involved in the student community. I’m looking forward to meeting new people, supporting students, and helping make their time at Sheridan a little easier and a lot more fun
Get to know Ash (He/him):
Q: Tell us about you and your role within the SSU
Hey everyone! I’m Ash, a Computer Systems Engineering student at Sheridan and your Member Service Ambassador. Outside of classes, I work as a Junior Software Developer, so a good part of my life involves solving problems and figuring out why something that worked yesterday suddenly doesn’t today
I wanted to work with the SSU because I enjoy helping people and wanted to be more involved in the student community. I’m looking forward to meeting new people, supporting students, and helping make their time at Sheridan a little easier and a lot more fun. My favourite part of Sheridan is the people. Group projects might test our patience, but at least we get some good friendships out of them.
Q: What are some of your goals for your role this year?
I want to be someone students feel comfortable approaching, whether they need help, have an idea, or just don’t know where to start. I’d love to help more students discover the support and opportunities available through the SSU.
Personally, I also want to build my confidence, improve my leadership skills, and get better at balancing work, school, and everything else. Hopefully without treating sleep like an optional course.
Q: What program are you in? And why did you choose this program at Sheridan?
I’m in Computer Systems Engineering! I enjoy understanding how technology works and using it to solve real problems. Sheridan felt like a good place to turn that interest into practical experience and build things beyond classroom assignments.
Q: What was your first memory of the SSU? How did you discover that the SSU existed for student support?
My first memory of the SSU was on my first day on campus for orientation. I was new and didn’t know where to go, so I stopped by and asked a Customer Service Representative for directions. She initially explained where the room was, but when she realized it was my first day, she took the time to walk me there herself.
That honestly made my day. I was still getting used to everything, and having someone make that extra effort helped me feel welcome and more comfortable. That was my first introduction to the SSU and the support they provide. It’s something I still remember, and I’d love to help other students feel the same way.
Q: What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Build and launch an app that people actually use—and hopefully not just my friends being supportive.
Travel somewhere completely new and experience the food, culture, and everything in between.
Make my mom happy and proud. That one will always be on the list, no matter what else I achieve.
Q: Which SSU Perk Partner is your personal favourite?
My favourite would be SPC! As a student, I appreciate being able to save a little on everyday purchases. It’s a useful perk that helps make the student budget go a bit further.
Q: What's the best SSU event you've attended so far?
The best SSU event I’ve attended so far was Garba Night at the HMC campus. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate the culture and connect with other students. Seeing everyone come together to enjoy the music and dancing made it a memorable part of my Sheridan experience.
