As we wrapped up the Fall 2025 term, December was a month rooted in community, care, and connection across Sheridan campuses. From festive celebrations and food security initiatives to advocacy work and student leadership milestones, SSU teams continued to show up for students during one of the busiest times of the year.
Here’s a look at what our December looked like!
Updates From Our SSU Board of Directors
For the first two weeks of December, we continued Board Office Hours with a new theme: SSU Student Services & Accessibility. During these sessions, students were invited to complete a short survey sharing which SSU services they find most helpful, which services they’re interested in using in the future, and what resources or supports they wish were available on campus.
This new approach helps us compile student feedback in a more structured way, making it easier to identify themes and better understand student needs.
As we move into the new year, we’ll continue engaging students through Board Office Hours, so be sure to take a few minutes to stop by our booths, share your feedback, and help shape your student experience (plus grab some snacks and SSU swag).
Our focus will also include:
1. Supporting the launch of the Strategic Plan Working Group, which will include SSU staff and three Board Directors at a time serving as student representatives from each campus on a rotating basis, ensuring broad and equitable input.
2. Continuing committee work to strengthen governance, financial sustainability, and collaboration with the College.
We’re looking forward to a strong and student-focused start to the new year.
Updates From The SSU Executive Team
December saw the SSU Executive Team actively advocating for students while addressing critical needs like food insecurity and access to supports. A standout initiative this month was the pilot Snack and Score food drive, led by Hayley, the Executive of Community Partnerships & Development in collaboration with Food Bank 4 All. With support from the full Executive team, the initiative successfully distributed 50 bags of non-perishable food to students at Davis Campus, directly supporting those in need during the holiday season.
Advocacy remained a strong focus as multiple members of the Executive Team attended OSV’s Advocacy Week at Queen’s Park. During the conference, SSU representatives met with MPPs to advocate on behalf of Sheridan students, bringing forward key issues such as student housing, food insecurity, mental health supports, and OSAP. These conversations helped ensure student voices were represented at the provincial level and reinforced SSU’s commitment to long-term systemic change.
Throughout December, the Executive Team continued to work collaboratively to support initiatives across departments, ensuring students had access to resources, representation, and meaningful support during the end of term.
Updates From Our Services Team
December was a quieter operational month for the Services team, but it was also a time for reflection, gratitude, and recognition.
Looking back on the Fall 2025 term, the Services team highlighted the success of their Flu Shot Clinic, which helped keep students safe and healthy during the colder months. Another significant change this year was the relocation of Services desks at Davis and Trafalgar to more open, high-traffic areas. While initially an adjustment, this shift has increased accessibility, allowed for more spontaneous student interactions, and strengthened the team’s day-to-day presence on campus.
As the year comes to a close, Services is looking ahead to further addressing food insecurity and continuing to enhance how students access supports.
🗣️ Staff Shoutout: Our CSRs Aiman, Tristan, Raman, and Anreet are all graduating! We thank them for their time at the SSU and wish them all the best in their future steps, careers, and milestones!👏
Sheridan Student Union Events
December was filled with warmth, joy, and meaningful moments thanks to the Events & Programming team. One of the biggest highlights was the 11th Annual Family Holiday Party, hosted at both Davis and Trafalgar campuses. The event welcomed 130 children of Sheridan students, staff, and faculty for a day packed with festive fun — complete with Santa, his elves, themed activities, food, and even a visit from The Grinch. It was a heartwarming way to celebrate the season and bring families together on campus.
The team also brought back a student favourite: Soup It Up. Held across all three campuses, this initiative provided free soup to students during exam season, helping ease stress and ensure no one had to worry about their next meal during a demanding academic period. Over the course of three days, the team served soup to approximately 1,100 students. In total, the Events & Programming team hosted 12 events in December, continuing their focus on wellness, inclusivity, and creating experiences that support students both academically and personally.
Beyond December, the Events & Programming team had a standout Fall semester filled with creativity, connection, and strong student engagement. Western-themed Welcome Weeks saw great attendance across campuses, with students fully embracing the theme from dressing the part to bringing high energy that made each event feel truly community-driven.
Wellness programming continued to resonate with students, especially yoga sessions with animals, which quickly became a campus favourite. The team also brought back several classic SSU events, including a Drag Show in recognition of Transgender Awareness Week and Sexy Bingo as part of ongoing health and wellness campaigns. These events created inclusive, affirming spaces while balancing education with fun.
Throughout the semester, the team remained responsive to changing student interests. Noticing shifts in attendance and engagement, they conducted multiple surveys to better understand what students want to see on campus. These insights will help shape future programming and ensure events continue to reflect student needs and interests.
As the year comes to a close, the Events team is looking forward to reconnecting with returning students, welcoming new faces, and continuing to create memorable, meaningful, and life-enriching experiences that shape students’ time at Sheridan.
Sheridan Student Union Clubs
December marked the final stretch of a busy and successful semester for the Clubs team. To close out the year, coordinators hosted their final pop-ups of 2025, connecting with students across campuses to promote upcoming club events, highlight opportunities for involvement, and encourage students to explore leadership through clubs.
Throughout the month, clubs hosted 19 events, contributing to an impressive 139 club-hosted events across the Fall 2025 semester. These initiatives showcased the diversity, creativity, and dedication of Sheridan’s club community.
🗣️ Staff Shoutout: We would like to recognize Madushen, who is completing his final semester with the SSU. Over the past two years, Madushen made meaningful contributions to the Clubs department, helping introduce initiatives such as the Clubs Conference, Clubs Cultural Showcase, and Clubs Fair after-parties across all campuses. These additions created valuable spaces for club executives to connect, unwind, and celebrate their hard work. We wish Madushen all the best in his final co-op term and upcoming graduation. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed to the SSU. 🤗
