November 2025: Sheridan Student Union Recap

November was a lively and inspiring month across all three campuses, filled with meaningful programming, creative initiatives, and student-driven leadership. From advocacy work to major cultural celebrations, here’s a look back at what the SSU has been up to! Click here to see the November recap.

Updates From The SSU Executive Team

The Executive Team continued their work towards strengthening campus connections and supporting student needs. Early in the month, Rushaine met with Associate Dean Jennifer Gillespie from FAST to discuss ongoing academic initiatives and explore potential workshops for next semester. The team also wrapped up the “How’s Your Study Going?” front-facing support hours, which saw great engagement from students seeking guidance during the busy midterm period.

On November 6, the SSU Executive Team supported the Latin American Heritage Art Expo at The Marquee, assisting with everything from setup to teardown. The event featured impactful artwork, heartfelt performances, and a powerful celebration of Latin culture led by talented Latin-American students.

A few days later, the team attended the SSU’s Annual General Meeting on November 12 at HMC C-Wing, where our Executive team and the SSU Volunteer Team played an essential role in preparing the event space and supporting operations. That same week, Christian led AdvocART on Campus across Trafalgar, Davis, and HMC, with support from the rest of the Executive Team and SSU volunteers. The interactive workshops brought together creative expression and advocacy skills, drawing over 80 students and receiving enthusiastic feedback for their hands-on and empowering approach.

Beyond campus events, the SSU remained active in provincial and national advocacy. On November 7, members of the team, including Samiya, Aditya, Christian, Hayley, and Rushaine, attended HEQCO’s ReimaginEd Conference, which explored the future of postsecondary education through discussions about Indigenous reconciliation, new learning models, and workforce readiness. During the conference, the team also met with MPP Deepak Anand.

Later in the month, Samiya and Mateo represented Sheridan Student Union at CASA’s 30th Anniversary Celebration in Ottawa, meeting with several MPs and Senators, including MP Shannon Miedema, Senator Iris Petten, Senator Dawn Arnold, MP John Zerucelli, MP Chris Bittle, MP Amandeep Sodhi, and MP Fares Al Soud. Throughout November, the SSU also gave back to students through nearly $500 in gift card giveaways during various initiatives and events.

Updates From Our Services Team

On the Services side, the SSU partnered with Rexall once again to deliver its annual Flu Shot Clinic, supporting more than 250 students in accessing free flu shots. The SSU Resources Fair also returned, helping students connect with essential supports, learn about services available to them, and meet staff committed to their success.

Sheridan Student Union Events

The SSU Events Team led a month filled with energy and creativity. November opened with Salsa dance workshops and a lively Latin Pub Night at HMC, keeping the spirit of Latin Heritage Month alive. One of the biggest highlights was the return of Goat Yoga, which filled all available slots with 140 students registered over three days. Students enjoyed a relaxing and joy-filled break with their new goat companions. The month also marked the return of “The Spotlight” at The Marquee, bringing back an open-mic-style night that encouraged performers to share their talents in a warm, supportive environment.

Transgender Awareness Week was another major focus in November. The week launched with an all-star Drag Show featuring Canada’s Drag Race Season 5 competitor Sanjina DaBish Queen and Drag King Ricorico, both of whom spent time meeting students and sharing personal stories. To close the week, SSU favourite Eva Bloom delivered an engaging workshop titled “The Queer and Trans Sex Ed You Should Have Gotten in High School,” creating an open and supportive space for learning and questions. The Events Team also celebrated one full month with our new team members across all campuses, who have all stepped in with enthusiasm and dedication.

🗣️Staff Shoutout: We'd like to give a shoutout to our newest team members at all 3 campuses for completing just over 1 month of being on staff, and jumping in and doing the job when it counts! At Davis, we have Temur, Zubayr, Bushra, and Amir! At Trafalgar, shoutout to Cole, Maksim, and Ryan. Lastly, at HMC, Haneen is such a star! Thanks, as always, to all of our team members for showing up with readiness and enthusiasm and making all of our events fun and successful! 👏

Updates from our Sheridan Student Union Clubs

This month our clubs team was active and saw a great upward trend, with club coordinators hosting pop-ups across all campuses to spotlight club life and welcome new members. In total, clubs held thirty-four events in November, including the GDG Datathon 2025, Latin Club Trafalgar’s Día de Muertos celebration with traditional pan de muerto and a community piñata project, and the Sikh Student Association’s Shaheedi Samagam honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji.

This month, we welcomed three new clubs:

  1. Musical Theatre Club: This one is for everyone who is looking to connect with fellow musical theatre enthusiasts.

  2. The Maker Lounge: Maker Lounge is Sheridan’s cozy corner for connection, creativity, and calm. It’s a place for students to relax, make friends, and recharge from daily stress while exploring new ideas together.

  3. The Fashion and Sewing Club: The club’s aim is to celebrate students' creations through hosting fashion shows to exhibit student projects.

Prospective clubs, such as the Book Club and the Desi Student Association, also continued to gather momentum and interest.

🗣️Staff Shoutout: A special shoutout goes to Dammy for hosting an outstanding pop-up at Davis to promote the Black Student Association, engaging students through conversations and activities that left a strong impact.

Updates from our Board of Directors

November was a significant month for your Board of Directors, marked by major governance work and strong student participation.

On November 12, more than 90 students joined us at the Annual General Meeting at HMC, where members approved the 2024–25 audited financial statements, ratified the SSU Board and audit firm, and passed all proposed bylaw amendments. The meeting opened with a grounding ceremony by Jared Big Canoe and included the release of the 2024–25 Impact Report.

Earlier in the month, the Policy Committee finalized updates in preparation for the AGM, and following the meeting, the Board approved several long-term financial decisions, including fee adjustments for 2026–27. They also selected LURA to lead the development of the SSU’s next Strategic Plan, launching in early 2026.

The Board held an emergency meeting on November 21 to meet critical deadlines for the domestic health and dental plan, approving notice to end our current contract with Alumo and beginning a competitive tender process with Mercer. Committees continued preparations for elections and financial approvals heading into December.

Throughout the month, discussions focused heavily on issues shaping student life. Transit, accessibility, affordability, and campus infrastructure were some of the high-level topics that were discussed throughout the month.

Students shared concerns about transportation costs, accessibility at TRC, the future of campus spaces, and sustainability. While the SSU doesn’t oversee college infrastructure, we continue to escalate accessibility feedback, advocate for better transit solutions, and plan sustainability programming for 2026.
