Updates From The SSU Executive Team

With the Fall semester officially underway, the Executive Team’s month was filled with opportunities to welcome students, build community, and strengthen student advocacy.

Welcome Week was one of the month’s biggest highlights, with the Executive Team supporting events across campuses and helping students feel connected as they returned to Sheridan. It was incredibly rewarding to see the community come together and kick off the new school year.

She met with Sheridan President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Cindy Gouveia and Provost and VP Academic Sean McNabney to discuss strategic alignment, co-hosted a community Ice Cream Social with MP Fares Al-Soud, and supported Suicide Prevention Week and Welcome Week activities.

Updates from the SSU Events Team

September was an exciting month for the Events Team, filled with new experiences, community, and plenty of opportunities for students to connect. From welcoming new students to dancing on a boat overlooking Toronto, the month captured what makes student life at Sheridan so special.

It all started with the three Kick Off events at all campuses in which they welcomed new students with music, performances, great energy, and free lunch from our Food Department. The events were made even more special by seeing staff from across SSU come together to create a memorable welcome for our newest students.

The month continued with the Welcome Week events, renowned mentalist and magician Savio Joseph brought his mind-bending talents to Davis and Trafalgar. Both shows had students captivated from beginning to end, leaving everyone amazed and wondering how he did it!

Potions & Pours added a little magic to the menu with three unique mocktails for students to enjoy. With refreshing flavours and creative presentations, they were a quick hit!  Then, we continued with Feast of Flames that brought together delicious food, an energetic atmosphere, and an incredible live drum performance. Students enjoyed the entertainment while grabbing a meal on the house.

Java Jam turned a coffee break into a party, with a live DJ, dancing, coffee, and pastries. It was a fun opportunity for students to relax, connect, and enjoy campus life.

Students brought their competitive spirit to The Gauntlet Games, taking on archery, combat archery, and inflatable gladiator jousting. The day was filled with friendly competition, laughs, and plenty of memorable moments.

Students headed to the Rogers Centre to watch the Toronto Blue Jays take on the Detroit Tigers. With a dedicated SSU section and limited-edition Blue Jays hats, it was a memorable day of baseball, cheering, and community.

The Trinket Trade Market brought student creativity to life through handmade goods, craft stations, live music, and community connections. Students had the chance to share their interests and discover what their peers were creating.

We closed out the month with our Toronto Boat Party. Students enjoyed incredible city views, music, dancing, and great company, making it the perfect way to end an unforgettable September.

Movie nights at The Den and The Marquee gave students a chance to relax with F1, Whiplash, and free shawarma from Shelby’s. Good movies, good food, and good company made for a great night together.

September was more than a month of events. It was a month of connection, creativity, competition, and community. Every event gave students another opportunity to make memories and experience what makes SSU such an important part of life at Sheridan.

Updates from the SSU Clubs Team

September was a busy and exciting month for student clubs, with strong engagement across all three Sheridan campuses. During Kick-Off and Welcome Week, dedicated Clubs booths helped them connect with new and returning students, introduce them to Clubs Corner, and encourage them to get involved. The clubs department also participated in the Sheridan Supports & Services Fair and hosted three carnival-themed Clubs Fairs featuring games, activities, prizes, and opportunities to meet club executives.

Throughout the month, clubs hosted 15+ events, including pop-ups, game nights, campus clean-ups, and two large-scale tech events: a Hackville x Google Developers Group Sheridan x Women in Business and Tech panel and an AWS Student Builder Group Community Day.
Together, these initiatives created countless opportunities for students to connect, learn, and build community.
It is safe to say that the clubs department also had a really successful month and they brought in so much engagement and community!

Updates from the SSU Services Team

The Services Team continued supporting students through important resources and services as the new semester got underway. In September, the SSU introduced its new Health & Dental Partner, The Campus Trust, helping ensure students have access to health and dental coverage that supports their overall well-being. Through the plan, domestic and OHIP covered international students can access a range of benefits designed to support their physical and mental health, making it easier to access the care and resources they need throughout the school year.

Updates from the SSU Food Services Team

This month, the Food Services Team continued expanding accessible and convenient food and beverage options for students across all three campuses. In September, the SSU brought food services in-house with the launch of the SSU Hungry Cafés at all campuses, creating a new on-campus option for students to grab food and refreshments while studying or between classes. The team also partnered with Palgong Tea to bring back their popular tea and beverage offerings to campuses, giving students even more options to enjoy throughout the school day.

That’s a Wrap on September!

We thank our student community who showed up to any of the welcome week events, joined a club, or visited us at one of our spaces! Here’s to an exciting fall semester ahead!
