April 2025 Sheridan Student Union Recap
As we prepared to close one chapter and begin another, the SSU wrapped up the winter term with a full spectrum of emotions! We honoured and celebrated our students with our Wicked-themed Annual Gala and Volunteer Appreciation Day while also saying goodbye to several SSU team members as they wrapped up their time with us. This month surely reminded us of how far we’ve come and all the magic that still lies ahead.
Let’s look at some April highlights at the SSU!
Updates From Our Board of Directors
Our 2024 – 2025 Board of Directors at the AGM, at Sheridan College, HMC Campus.
April was a time of reflection and gratitude as we said goodbye to our 2024–2025 Board of Directors. Throughout the year, they worked hard to keep student voices at the forefront, advocating for well-being, equity, and meaningful change. From championing new student support roles to strengthening student engagement, their leadership has left a lasting mark on the SSU community.
To our inspiring outgoing Board of Directors — Glaron Pinto, Roopkomal Singh, Stanzin Yutung, Om Patel, Jashandeep Kaur, Anushka Grover, Gulsher Cheema, Yagna Patel, Nilesh Thakor, and Alizeh Khan — thank you for your dedication, heart, and impact. We’re proud to watch you pass the torch to the 2025–2026 Board of Directors, and we can’t wait to see where your leadership journeys take you next!
Updates From Our Executive Team
SSU Volunteers with our SSU Executive Team at Sheridan College, HMC Campus.
April marked the end of a meaningful chapter for our SSU Executive Team and they wrapped it up with heart and impact. One of the month’s standout moments was Volunteer Appreciation Day, a celebration of the dedication, energy, and spirit our student volunteers bring to campus life. Relaunched earlier this year by Vice Presidents Amalia Powell and Grace Rebeca Verghese, the SSU Volunteer Program has empowered students to engage in campus initiatives, build valuable skills, and strengthen our community. The appreciation event included awards, certificates, and a few surprises to recognize the volunteers who helped make this semester unforgettable.
Another powerful initiative in April was the EDI Training at Davis Campus, led by JEDI professional Deborah Moriah. This student-led session brought together students, faculty, and staff to explore equity, diversity, and inclusion through meaningful conversation and practical tools. It was a strong step in continuing the work to create a more inclusive community at Sheridan.

As April came to a close, we also said goodbye to several members of the Executive Team, including Amalia Powell, Fahad Khan, Grace Rebeca Verghese, and Vincent Tsang. Their leadership, creativity, and dedication to student advocacy made a lasting impact on our community. Thank you for all the ways you’ve shaped the student experience. We’re sure you’ll continue to create change and empower others in whatever path you take next!
Sheridan Student Union Services
April was a month of new beginnings for our SSU Services Team! We successfully wrapped up our annual Tax Clinic, supporting 75 students with personalized guidance and a smooth filing process, just in time for tax season. As we look toward the summer, we also welcomed our incoming Customer Service Reps: Quinn, Hayley, Aiman, Ann, Isabela, Joann, Karanveer, Emmanuel, Apphia, Jerome, and Deja! Their journey began with a warm welcome and hands-on training from our outgoing CSR legends.
📣 Shout-out to Juan, Arshia, Tristan, Cally, and Anreet for stepping up to mentor the new crew and pass their knowledge.
And don’t forget! Summer is around the corner, so now’s the perfect time to check out all the amazing SSU perks you can take advantage of!
Sheridan Student Union Events
April wrapped the winter term in the sweetest way; with fun, relaxation, and a whole lot of celebration. We introduced our first-ever Easter Egg Hunt, a family-friendly event that brought students, staff, and their little ones together for face painting, caricatures, free chocolate and a special visit from the Easter Bunny himself.
We also hosted our third Pawsitive Vibes Yoga session of the semester, because nothing melts stress like yoga and puppies. Students stretched, laughed, and snuggled with furry friends, ending the term on a much-needed note of ease.

And of course, we ended the semester with a Wicked celebration at the 6th Annual SheridanLife Gala! Over 300 students joined us for a night full of dancing, great food, and sparkly memories. It was a magical, musical night worthy of Broadway itself.
We also want to send a heartfelt thank you to our graduating team members, Ariana and Manveer, for all the joy, dedication, and spirit they brought to SSU. We’ll miss you, but we’re cheering you on every step of the way!

April was buzzing with club activity as we closed out the academic year. From re-registration for returning clubs to end-of-year celebrations and pop-ups, the Clubs Team made sure students felt connected, appreciated, and inspired. In total, clubs hosted 47 events! Many of them were large-scale, year-end gatherings that marked an amazing close to the semester.
Some standout moments include:
The Sikh Student Association’s celebration of Khalsa Sajna Divas, a vibrant cultural event that honored the birth of the Khalsa with food, music, and community spirit.
Face It Club’s thoughtful activation for World Autism Acceptance Day, where students shared lived experiences and engaged in meaningful dialogue around inclusion.
A massive high-energy collab between the Sheridan Black Students Association and Sheridan Caribbean Students Association at Fete in D'Station, a musical explosion of Soca, AfroBeats, Reggaeton, and more!
Year-end galas hosted by the Sheridan Kinesiology and Health Promotion Association and the Animation Student Council, giving students a moment to celebrate their hard work with style.
