Liam, Member Service Ambassador

All in all, the SSU enhances the student experience and it is a privilege to have been able to assist with that in multiple ways.

Get to know Liam (He/him):

Q: Tell us about you and your role within the SSU

I am in my fourth year of the Honours Bachelor of Community Safety program at Davis. I eventually want to be involved in policing, but as my field is very broad, this is not set in stone by any means.

The SSU provides an opportunity for you to help students through many different situations, which is something I find very fulfilling. The events that they host are also very enjoyable, and I have made some good memories there. All in all, the SSU enhances the student experience and it is a privilege to have been able to assist with that in multiple ways.

I have been a Deputy Returning Officer that helped to ensure that the election for the SSU Board of Directors ran smoothly, and I am now a Member Service Ambassador, where I help students access different services that the SSU provides and to help them with questions that they may have through their time at Sheridan.

Q: What are some of your goals for your role this year?

I constantly want to learn more and more about the different services that the SSU provides, as well as what is available on the college side to assist students. I have solid knowledge already, but I always learn something new from the interactions I have with students. With more in-depth knowledge, I can assist students at a higher standard.

Q: What program are you in? And why did you choose this program at Sheridan?

I am in the Honours Bachelor of Community Safety program at Sheridan. I want to get into policing eventually, or other areas of the community safety field as helping people out is something that I find very fulfilling and I feel it is the best thing that I am capable of doing to contribute to society.

Q: What are 3 things on your bucket list?

1. Travel outside of North America
2. Take at least one helicopter ride
3. Take "The Canadian" Via Rail train

Q: What was your first memory of the SSU? How did you discover that the SSU existed for student support?

I first heard about the SSU when I visited the Bruin Coffee shop during my first year. My professor told me that I could support my student union that way. Some people in my program also started to get jobs with the SSU, and from them I was able to gain more specific knowledge about what they do. The services that they provided also helped some people in my program through difficult situations, and that allowed me to learn how helpful the SSU can be for students.
