Keep reading to check out how our teams were able to make June fun while getting so much work done.
Updates From Our SSU Board of Directors & Executive Team
While the SSU welcomed new faces this month, we joined the rest of Sheridan in wishing the College’s now former president and vice chancellor, Dr Janet Morrison, farewell as she leaves her position at the school! The Board of Director’s Chairperson, Peter, and Vice Chairperson, Austin, had the opportunity to speak on behalf of the SSU and thank Dr Morrison for her unwavering dedication over her years at Sheridan. On June 11th and 13th, several directors also participated in the Presidential Search Consultation sessions.
The Board has also added office hours across all three campuses and is hosting sessions on different days of the week so that students can share their experiences and learn more about what the board does and how they advocate for the Sheridan student body!
A major area of focus at the Board table this month was centering the student voice in long-term SSU planning. At the Board meeting on Thursday, June 26th, we officially struck two important committees: the Policy Committee and the Strategic Plan Committee. These committees, made up of Directors and SSU staff, will help guide the Union’s internal development and external impact.
On Thursday, May 29th, at HMC, Austin our TRC Director and Vice-Chairperson, spoke on behalf of the SSU at the Pride Flag Raising Ceremony to help kick off Pride Month. Reflecting on the experience, Austin shared, “Representing and amplifying the voices of students is exactly the reason why I campaigned to be a part of this Board. Having the opportunity to express my own individuality and share that with everyone at the Pride flag raising event is a special moment I will cherish.”
Pride month is a great time to advocate and be proud of who you are. Curious how you can use your voice and presence to help make the world and campus a more inclusive place?
Members from both the Executive Team and Board of Directors attended ECHO 2025, an advocacy day hosted by IGNITE. Attended by Christian, the new Executive of Advocacy, Samiya, the Director of Student Executives, Simon (Board Chairperson) and Angela (Chief Returning Officer). This group represented the SSU and had the chance to discuss the potential effects of the Ontario government's Bill 33.

Updates from our SSU Events Team
With COCA, Feel-Good Fridays, off-campus events and the return of Mau Cecena as the new Events Team Supervisor, our SSU Events Team had a busy and memorable June! During the second week, we successfully hosted over 100 participants from different student unions and associations around the country at this year's COCA National Conference. Our events team did a great job of taking care of venue operations at all three of our campuses! Hosting multiple showcases every day for a week at different locations was not easy, so a big shoutout to the team for working together to make 2025’s COCA run smoothly!
Apart from all the hard work for COCA, the team also took time to make sure our summer students enjoyed some smaller-scale events this month, like the sold-out trips to Hilton Falls and Canada’s Wonderland. If you think the fun stopped with full buses and great weather for our off-campus trips, think again. Feel Good Fridays are back! This popular summer event is always a highlight for students, and with its return this month, we get to see students take time to destress with free games and mocktails every Friday!
Updates from our Clubs Team
After the busy month of May, our Clubs Department kept up the work, hosting their first club executive meetings, a pop-up and welcoming a new club! Over 80 students attended the club executive meetings wherein the clubs' coordinators went over policies and clubs corner training. You can take a look at how that went on our Facebook album!
The clubs department wants to highlight Oceanna for successfully hosting her first pop-up with a great attitude. Her enthusiasm and creativity are clear to see and we’re excited to watch what she’ll do this year! Another highlight from clubs is the establishment of the Woodland Creature Society club at the Davis campus. This new club “[aims to] embark on enchanting hikes and adventurous quests while also tending to gardens and crops, giving back to the community, and much more.”
That’s all for June
We would like to give a big shout-out to all our SSU teams for working so hard this month! With all the awesome events, a new club and welcoming new executive team members, we had a lot to be excited about this month! Our team is looking forward to keeping up all the fun this summer! ☀️
